Let's take a trip down memory lane at what could be considered the best season in the Seattle Kraken's short history. It was the 2022-23 NHL season, and it featured their one and only successful year, that led to a playoff appearence.

Let's look back.

Regular Season

The Kraken, who were fresh off of their disappointing first season in which they finished last in the Pacific Division, looked to bounce back. They didn't just bounce back lightly, they fought their way back from the depths to land a playoff spot. This season held a lot of franchise records, and it helped them succeed.

Finishing with a record of 46-28-8, they eclipsed the 100-point plateau for the first time and were good enough to make the first wildcard spot in the Western Conference. The Kraken were led by forward Jared McCann, who lit the lamp 40 times and added 30 assists, for 70 points. No one has been able to beat that point total or goal total just yet.

Another key to their success was the performance of their goaltender, Martin Jones, who was 27-13-3 in the regular season. He also had three shutouts on the season, which was tied by Joey Daccord last season as a season-high for goaltenders.

Playoff Run

By securing the first wildcard spot in the Western Conference, it meant that the Kraken made the playoffs for the first time in their short history. They faced off against the Stanley Cup-defending Colorado Avalanche. The series went to game 7, and the Kraken came out on top for the first playoff series victory.

It was short-lived, however, as their second round didn't go as well as the first round. The Dallas Stars rolled into town, and the series featured a second-consecutive series-deciding game, and this time the Kraken were on the losing end.

The season was a successful one, and at the moment, the best in franchise history. Will the 2024-25 campaign upstage it?
