As we settle in for the long summer before the start of the 2024-25 NHL season, let's take a look at what division the Seattle Kraken play in? Located on the west coast, they play in a division close to a giant body of water, for which the division is named after. Additionally, all of the teams they compete against are located on the western side of the United States and Canada.
Going into their fourth season in the NHL, they have not placed better than fourth place in this 8-team division. This group of teams features some of the league's best, and each team plays each game with a playoff competitiveness. The Western Conference as a whole is known for being a much grittier and nastier group of teams, with an emphasis on physicality over skill.
The Kraken play in the Pacific Division
Like I said, located in Seattle, Washington, this makes a ton of sense to keep the Kraken on the West Coast. Each of their direct competitors resides on the west coast, which makes for intense and heated rivalries.
Who else plays in the Pacific Division? Well, the seven other teams in the Pacific include the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, and the Vegas Golden Knights.
As the new kids on the block, just behind the 31st expansion team, the Golden Knights, they have yet to make a dent in terms of winning the entire division. In their inaugural season of 2021-22, they finished dead last in the Pacific. That is not the way to make an impression.
Furthermore, comparing the expansion process of Vegas and Seattle, the Golden Knights have made the playoffs in six of their first seven seasons, won the Pacific Division title four times, and even lifted Lord Stanley in 2022-23. Seattle is nowhere even close to that level of dominance.
After learning that the Seattle Kraken play in the Pacific Division, when do you think they will win the Pacific Division title?
