In the next edition of Seattle Kraken Grades, we look at the guy who should be named the starting goaltender for 2024-25, Joey Daccord. With a goaltending dilemma happening in Seattle, Daccord proved he should be the starter going forward last season.
Let's take a look at how last season faired for Daccord.
Season Recap
Last season was a bit of a dud for the Kraken as they were losers more than winners. But, looking at the stat sheet and overall performance reviews, Daccord was exceptional. It is no secret that the Kraken were unable to score a ton of goals last season, but if they were able to pot just a few more than they had, the season could have been completely different.
With a record of 19-18-11, he was a lot better than that shows. Daccord stopped .916 percent of the shots he faced, which was among some of the top goalies in the NHL. In comparison, Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky saved .915 percent of the shots he faced in his Stanley Cup-winning season.
Additionally, he only allowed an average of 2.46 goals-against in those games last season, which is a very respectful number. You can compare that to Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko, who was a Vezina Trophy finalist, he allowed a 2.45 GAA.
Daccord was solid last season, and with a contract expiration looming at the end of 2024-25, he is expected to have an even better year coming up. It all comes down to whether or not the Kraken offense in front of him can keep up with the opposition.
In 2023-24, the Kraken were held to 2 goals or less in 41 games. That is not how you win hockey games, and Daccord suffered the consequences of that. He held his own, but you can't win if you don't score.
Do you agree with Daccord's grade, and what do you think his grade will be in 2024-25?
