On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Seattle Kraken are getting ready to host the New York Rangers. This is the first game between the two teams in the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season.

This game also marks the Kraken's second of a two-game homestand. Let's see if the Kraken can complete the sweep.

Kraken storylines

Against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, Matthew Wood made his Kraken debut. He was recently acquired by the Kraken in the trade for Shane Wright. Wood played 17:35, a total of 17:35 on the ice amongst 22 shifts. He had one shot and was close to getting his first point with his new club. As the Kraken looks to continue to the homestand, maybe he'll notch his first.

The Kraken also placed Curtis Douglas on injured reserve (IR) and, in a subsequent move, called up forward Jagger Firkus. He has been making strides in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Kraken's affiliate team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In 12 games this season, he has 12 points.

This call-up marks Firkus' first to the NHL level. Unfortunately, in this game against the Rangers, Firkus will not get a chance to make his debut, as he is a healthy scratch. If Douglas remains on IR for the next few days, Firkus will likely remain on roster, where he will travel to Finland with the Kraken. If this is the case, there is a chance he could make his NHL debut in the Global Series, which would be an incredible accomplishment.
