On Friday, Nov. 1, the Seattle Kraken kicked off the month with a bang. Although they didn't play a game, the Kraken took part in the next trade of the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season. Seattle traded forward Shane Wright to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Matthew Wood.

Throughout the 2026 offseason, the talk of Seattle was the fact that Wright was requesting a trade from the team. There were rumors that circulated often, but nothing that was set in stone. Now, Wright received the trade he so desperately wanted.

Kraken get Wood in 1-for-1 trade

Wood was selected 15th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft by the Predators. He made his NHL debut in the 2024-25 season, on April 6 against the Montreal Canadiens. He played in five more games to close out the season and recorded his first assist on April 15.

In the 2025-26 season, Wood began playing for the Predators full time. He played in 71 games and recorded 30 points. He scored his first goal on Oct. 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored 16 more throughout the season, and the rest of his 30 points were made up by 13 assists.

So far this season, Wood has played in 14 games and has scored one goal and recorded two assists.

What the Kraken get from Wood

The Kraken made a decent trade for Wright, getting a one-for-one player. Wood will fill in the gap in the forwards group that Wright now leaves. Both forwards play right wing, which just allows Wood to slot into the third line alongside Kaapo Kakko and Berkly Catton.

Wood doesn't have the greatest offensive performance just yet, but a new set of linemates could change that for him. He adds depth to the Kraken's forward group regardless, something they have been desperately lacking.

The Kraken gets a versatile right-winger who can solidify the bottom six. At six-foot-four and 202 pounds, Seattle also gets a player with good height who's not afraid to throw his body around. After the mess with Curtis Douglas in the past few games, now is the prime opportunity to bench Douglas and enter in Wood and Jani Nyman to help generate offense in the Kraken's bottom six.
