On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Seattle Kraken announced they are placing forward Curtis Douglas on injured reserve (IR) with an upper-body injury. In a corresponding move, the Kraken have recalled forward Jagger Firkus from their American Hockey League (AHL) team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Firkus has the potential to make a huge impact
Firkus has been a strong Kraken prospect since the 2024-25 season. The 2024-25 season was his first with the Firebirds, and he played in 69 games and recorded 39 points. In the 2025-26 season, Firkus had a huge offensive spike and recorded 56 points in 63 games. Firkus was second overall in the Firebirds' points, just five points below Logan Morrison.
This season, Firkus has 12 points in 12 games. Only defenseman Tyson Jugnauth has more points than him with 14. Firkus has been a major part of the Firebirds' offense and continues to perform well with the team.
Firkus has yet to play in his first National Hockey League (NHL) game, but there's a chance this opportunity comes sooner rather than later for him. The Kraken are currently 9-5-1 for the season, which is their best start amongst their six seasons in the league so far.
If Douglas is expected to be out for a long time, Firkus could also potentially travel with the Kraken overseas to Helsinki, Finland, where Seattle will take part in their first Global Series.
This is an exciting time for Firkus. Hopefully, head coach Lane Lambert will find a chance for Firkus to make it into the lineup, either against the New York Rangers on Saturday or in the Global Series.
