Night Four - 12/29/2023

For their first home game during this joyful run, the Seattle Kraken returned to a rink aglow with festive spirit. As the Philadelphia Flyers soared into Climate Pledge Arena, their wings spread wide like winter geese in a crisp December sky, the Kraken braced themselves for a feathery challenge.

The opening moments saw both teams circling warily, each testing the other’s resolve. Then, as the first period ticked on, the Flyers found an odd advantage and struck short handed. Their goal soared past the Kraken’s guard, a sudden gust of cold wind that rattled Seattle’s merry bells.

But the Kraken, fueled by holiday warmth and determined hearts, remained calm. Joey Daccord stood tall in net, tracking the puck as if guiding a sleigh through darkened clouds. Time passed like a gentle snowfall, and finally, in the third period, Vince Dunn lit a candle on the scoreboard. With help from Oliver Bjorkstrand and Alexander Wennberg, Dunn’s power play goal glowed like a lantern in a frosty window, tying the game and filling the arena with hopeful cheer.

When regulation ended, the contest drifted into the hush of overtime. Here, the Kraken unwrapped their finest gift. Justin Schultz, aided by Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde, delivered the deciding goal as if placing a star upon the tallest tree. The crowd erupted, their voices rising like carols under silent, starlit rafters.

With a final score of 2 to 1, Seattle had gently trimmed the Flyers’ wings and brought them down to earth. Holiday harmony had triumphed once more, ensuring that the magic of this streak stayed aloft, even when facing opponents who tried to soar too high.
