Night Eight - 1/11/2024
By the time the Kraken arrived in Washington, their holiday spirit was as well traveled as a cherished keepsake passed lovingly among distant friends. The city’s stately glow offered a new stage for their wintry song, and the Capitals waited like silent sentinels at twilight. Yet the Kraken, brimming with cheer and confidence, were ready to pen another merry verse in their growing carol of success.
From the first drop of the puck, Seattle’s game resembled a gentle snowfall drifting over historic avenues. Tye Kartye struck first, placing a tidy goal beneath the crossbar as if tucking a treasured ornament onto a high branch. Moments later, Alexander Wennberg chimed in with a tally that rang clear like a choir’s voice on a frosty evening. The Capitals tried to spark their hearth with a goal from Max Pacioretty, but the Kraken simply stoked their own flames with more determination.
Justin Schultz added his name to the festive ledger, assisted by Eeli Tolvanen and Oliver Bjorkstrand, turning the second period into a candlelit feast of passes and deft stickwork. As the third period wore on, Adam Larsson sealed the deal with a shot that danced into the net like a bright candle bringing warmth to a dim corner. Seattle’s defenders and Joey Daccord guarded the lead as if protecting precious heirlooms, allowing Washington no chance to snuff out their flame.
When the final horn sounded, the scoreboard read 4 to 1 in favor of the Kraken. Their victory felt like a gentle carol that drifted through quiet streets, inviting passersby to pause and smile. Far from home, under unfamiliar lights, Seattle had once again adorned the game with ribbons of joy and perseverance, refusing to let the cold winds of the road steal their holiday glow.
