The Seattle Kraken may have found their goaltender of the future with Joey Daccord. The fans love him, he was great in net last season, and with a starting role seemingly in hand for 2024-25, he must keep the momentum going.
But, can he?
All Aboard The Daccord Train
Overnight, it seems like Daccord has taken Seattle by storm. He is a fan favorite, and there is no denying that he won it over with his performance last season. Despite it being a down year, he found a lot of success through all of the disappointment.
In 46 starts last season, he was 19-18-11. That doesn't seem all that great, but once you go across the stat sheet, you start to see why he was revered for his play. He stopped .916 of the shots he faced and only allowed an average of 2.46 goals per game. Overall, he was a large part of why the Kraken was the ninth-best team in the league in total goals against, with only allowing 236.
Daccord held his own, with a beat-up and underwhelming defensive group, and with virtually little-to-no offense in front of him as well. Statistically, he stood toe-to-toe with some of the NHL's elite goaltenders like Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Vancouver netminder Thatcher Demko.
Additionally, he gained some new pieces this offseason that can be his much-needed security blanket. That would be forward Chandler Stephenson and defenseman Brandon Montour, who both play a strong and physical 200-foot game. They are both two huge pluses that he didn't have last season.
Do you believe that Joey Daccord will keep his momentum going in 2024-25, and be even better than he was before?
