Seattle Kraken Grades: Will Borgen
As we are just days away from the start of training camp, we are getting down to the last couple of Seattle Kraken player grades from the 2023-24 season. Do not worry, if you enjoyed it that much, it will be back at the All-star break and the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
Next up is defenseman Will Borgen. The 27-year-old blueliner has been with the Kraken for the last three seasons. In that time he has been formidable with his performance, but all eyes are on him for the 2024-25 campaign. His contract is set to run out at the end of the season, and with fellow d-man Adam Larsson signing a pretty extensive deal a few days ago, Borgen may be playing for his livelihood.
Season Recap
In 2023-24, Borgen was another player who did not make the impact he should have. The former St. Cloud prospect appeared in all 82 games, which makes it the second year in a row that he was able to accomplish such a feat. He adds to the sustainability that the Kraken need to be a successful hockey club.
With a perfect attendance, he scored three goals, which ties his career-high, and added 22 assists for 25 points. Those numbers were career-highs for him, as he is a highly defensive defenseman.
He had a defensive zone start percentage of 67.6, which is the most for his career. Borgen was forced to play an aggressive and grueling game because he did not have a stable offense that scored a healthy amount of goals in front of him.
Borgen was not terrible in 2023-24, but it was not the best work of his career. With eyes on the Kraken being playoff-bound in 2024-25, Borgen needs to be at his best.
How do you think Borgen did in 2023-24?
