In the next edition of the Seattle Kraken Prospect Showcase, we look at center Berkly Catton. With a couple of solid young centers already on the current roster, could we see Catton slide onto the NHL roster this upcoming season?

Let's take a look.

The First Round Pick in 2024

Drafted by Seattle in the first round of the recent 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Catton could be one of another solid first-pick pickup. He could be joining Matty Beniers, Shane Wright and Eduard Šalé. Those three are considered the future of this franchise, and Catton could also be in that conversation.

The 18-year-old prospect out of Saskatoon, CAN, Catton spent the last three seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. These past two seasons showed him elevate his game, with a 55-point effort in 2022-23, and a scorching 116-point clinic last season. He was so good last season, Catton finished the season with the fourth-most points in all of the WHL.

He brings a great offensive game to Seattle, with great hands and a superb shot. As evident in his goal total last season, with 54 goals, he is a goal-scorer that the Kraken desperately needs. Additionally, he can score in every situation, as he was second on the Chiefs with 13 powerplay goals and led the WHL in shorthanded goals with seven

The real test will be to see how he handles the American Hockey League when he suits up with Coachella Valley this upcoming season. Even though he is still eligible to take another season in Spokane and the WHL, it makes more sense to me for him to get reps in at the AHL level. Of course, that isn't up to me or you to make that call.
