After discussing the first forward-line combination, let's flip the ice and look at the first defensive pairing. Last season proved that the defensive unit was not sturdy and dependable. But, with a new acquisition, we could be looking at a completely new unit.

let's take a look.

First Defensive Line - 29 / 62

It all begins and ends with the performance of this pairing. These two are the very best the Kraken hav to offer on the blue line, and if they want to be successful, they have to be perfect. On the left side, it's Vince Dunn, and on the right is newly acquired Brandon Montour.

Dunn has been a staple for this Kraken defense since he was selected in the Expansion Draft in 2021. He is one of the best players on this roster as a whole, and his absence with injury last season was a factor in their demise.

Montour comes over from Florida after winning the Stanley Cup. What more can you ask of a player? He brings a great veteran presence, back-to-back Stanley Cup finals appearances, and a great two-way game to couple his partner, Dunn.

There was a wide gap between Dunn and the next-best defenseman Adam Larsson, but now, this one-two punch will be battling it out all year to see who is more impactful. Dunn has been as dependable as can be for the Kraken for years, and Montour can be the difference-maker that gets this franchise back into the Stanley Cup playoffs.

In all honesty, it doesn't matter which is better, as long as these two can get comfortable with each other. Their chemistry is extremely important, and they don't have a lot of time to practice with one another before the regular season begins on October 8th.

How good will this duo be in 2024-25?
