In every city where there are sports teams, the loyalty runs deep. In Seattle, that loyalty feels a little different. You have lifelong Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks fans, a large group of people who rallied behind getting the Seattle Kraken into the city, and now another group trying to get the Seattle SuperSonics reinstated again. Let's not forget women's sports either, as there are a massive amount of Seattle Storm fans. Plus the Seattle Torrent had the largest attendance rate in their inaugural PWHL season in the 2025-26 season.
The Seahawks fandom runs deep, with the team enacting the "12 flag," which signifies the unwavering support of Seahawk fans for the team. This is a significant part of the team's history, and ahead of every game, they always have someone come out and raise the flag. Ahead of their game on Oct. 25, Kraken forward Matty Beniers came out and raised the flag.
Earlier this season, Beniers also threw out the first pitch at the Mariners game. By raising the flag for the Seahawks and throwing out the first pitch at the Mariners, Beniers is proving his loyalty and belief in Seattle teams. The fact that Beniers is getting these honors in Seattle, while being from Boston, is a testament to the city he plays for and has grown to love.
