The Seattle Kraken played against the Calgary Flames for the third time in a single calendar month on Oct. 30. In Seattle's last two games against Calgary, the Kraken outscored the Flames 12-2. This was also the Kraken's last game at the Saddledome, and with six of their wins being recorded in Calgary, there were high hopes for the Kraken to pull out the win in this game.

Unfortunately for Seattle, the Flames bested them, taking a 6-2 win against the Kraken.

Gaudreau is on a hot streak

Frederick Gaudreau scored the first goal for the Kraken in this game. Seattle was already down by one after a power-play goal from Morgan Frost. In the middle of the first period, Gaudreau skated the puck up to the net. He took a backhanded shot that Dustin Wolf initially thwarted. Gaudreau picked up his own rebound and, with a second backhanded shot, put the Kraken on the board.

Gaudreau has had a phenomenal start to the 2026-27 season, recording 10 points in 14 games. He currently has seven goals and three assists, and Gaudreau has the most goals of any player on the Kraken at the moment.

Last season, Gaudreau had seven goals in 68 games. He has that many in just the first month of the season. This is only the start for Gaudreau this season, and he has the potential to be a major offensive threat for Seattle.

Kraken's special teams need work

While Gaudreau scored the Kraken's first goal of the game, Mackie Samoskevich managed to get a second on the power-play. However, this was the only good thing to come of the Kraken's special teams.

The Kraken had a 25% success rate on the power play, failing to capitalize on three other chances where they were on the extra-man advantage. They also allowed Calgary to score on both of their power-plays, which only amplified their chances to take down the Kraken.

As the season continues, the Kraken will need to work on their power play more. Their extra-man advantage struggle is something they dealt with last season, and they can't let it get the best of them once more.

Kraken can still take season series

Even though the Kraken had a poor performance against the Flames in this game, Seattle has a quick turnaround, in which they will host the Flames for the two teams' last game of the 2026-27 season on Nov. 4. The Kraken have had a strong start to the 2026-27 season, regardless, winning eight of their first 14 games.

When the Kraken host the Flames, this game will be their first of November. The Kraken have the chance to not only take the season series with a third win over the Flames in this game, but they also have the chance to set themselves up to start November on a positive note.
