The Seattle Kraken already played two games in the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season, but they just played their home opener on Oct. 4. The Kraken hosted the Calgary Flames, who they just beat 6-1 in the Flames' home opener on Oct. 1.

The Kraken repeated their success again, taking an early commanding lead against Calgary. The score was exactly the same as it was in their season opener, taking another 6-1 victory over the Flames.

Samoskevich made an huge impact in his home debut with Seattle

Mackie Samoskevich is one of the newcomers to the Kraken this season. He was traded to Seattle by the Florida Panthers right before the 2026 NHL Draft. In exchange, Florida received a first round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a second round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

In Samoskevich's home debut in Seattle, he scored not one but two goals against the Flames. He helped extend Seattle's lead early in the first period and scored again late in the second period.

Samoskevich has a winning streak in his bones after helping the Panthers win the Stanley Cup in the 2025 season. While the Kraken might not have a chance at the Stanley Cup anytime soon, it's still a great sign that the Kraken are building towards a winning team.

Youth performing well

While Samoskevich might have scored two goals, it was Berkly Catton who scored the first goal for the Kraken in this game. Just two minutes into the first period, Catton took advantage of the Flames' misplay and converted it to a Seattle goal.

Catton wasn't the only younger player to get on the score sheet. Shane Wright scored a goal of his own in the second period to give Seattle a four-goal lead.

The Kraken are relying heavily on their youth this season, and Wright and Catton are no exception to this. The 2026-27 season marks Catton's second full-time season in the NHL, and already he is proving to the team that they are making the right choice in investing in him.

Flames denied Daccord the shutout at the last second again

Just like in the season opener, the Kraken were up by five goals heading towards the end of the third period. It looked like Joey Daccord was about to get his first shutout of the season, but the Flames scored a power-play goal with just five minutes left in the game.

Although Daccord didn't get his first shutout of the season just yet, he still was incredible for the Kraken once again. He made 32 saves on 33 shots and earned a save percentage (SV%) of .970.

Both Daccord and Grubauer have been stellar for the Kraken to start off the season. Seattle will need to keep their goaltending strong all season, so let's hope the pair can keep this strong performance going throughout the season.
