On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Seattle Kraken are getting ready to host the Vegas Golden Knights for their first matchup against one another for the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season. Here are three Kraken storylines to follow throughout the game.
Samoskevich elevated to the top line
At morning skate, the lineup looked a little different. Mackie Samoskevich was taking rushes alongside Matty Beniers and Jared McCann on the top line. This shifts Jordan Eberle down to the second line.
This shift is likely due to Samoskevich's excellent performance in his home debut with the Kraken; he scored not one but two goals against the Calgary Flames on Sunday. The Kraken acquired Samoskevich from the Florida Panthers in the hopes of building up their offense. Already, this trade is paying off well for Seattle.
Daccord in the crease again
At morning skate today, Joey Daccord was in the starting goaltender net, signaling he will be the starter for the Kraken again tonight. He had a brilliant performance in his first two games of the season. In both games, Daccord almost recorded the shutout, but the Flames spoiled it at the last second.
The Kraken have relied on Daccord to be their starting goaltender for several seasons now, and this one is no different. He just needs to keep a clear head on his shoulders to help Seattle secure their next win.
Kraken don't have a great win record against Vegas
The Kraken haven't been in the NHL for a long time, just their sixth season in the league, and they don't have a great track record against the Vegas Golden Knights. One of their primary division rivals, the Kraken have only beaten the Golden Knights six times in their 19 games against one another.
Last season, the Kraken played the Golden Knights four times and won three of the four games. This was a great turnaround for Seattle, considering their previous performances against Vegas. Hopefully, Seattle can begin a win streak against Vegas tonight at home before the Kraken hit the road again.
