The Seattle Kraken have already played two games in the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season, but their first game at home is today, Oct. 4. Seattle is getting ready to host the Calgary Flames at Climate Pledge Arena, the same team the Kraken opened their season against, beating them 6-1.

After a 3-1 loss to Edmonton the night prior, the Kraken are ready to get back into action and back in the win column. Here are three storylines to follow as the Kraken get ready to play on home ice in Seattle.

Kraken need to keep the offense up

Against the Flames in their season opener, the Kraken's offense exploded, scoring six goals. They really slowed down production against the Oilers, where they only scored one goal on a power-play opportunity.

The Kraken scored on one of their six power play opportunities against the Flames on Thursday. In both games, the Kraken opened the scoring with a power play goal. Unfortunately, this was Seattle's only goal against Edmonton.

It was this strong offensive performance that led the Kraken to victory against the Flames the first time; let's hope they can bring that performance back against them now in Seattle.

Kraken don't have a great track record of back-to-back

The Kraken are facing the second half of a back-to-back situation in this game; they are notoriously bad at performing in the second half. Seattle went 0-12 in the second half of back-to-backs in 2024-25.

Seattle won both legs of a back-to-back on Dec. 22 and 23, 2025, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings. They went on to win four more back halves of a back-to-back throughout the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

After their turnaround last season, it seems like the Kraken are finally getting back on track when it comes to back-to-backs. Let's hope they can start the 2026-27 season with a huge second half of a back-to-back win.

Kraken don't have a great win record in home openers, either

This is the Kraken's sixth season, and it wasn't until last season when they finally earned their first home opener win against the Anaheim Ducks. It took them five seasons to finally achieve a home opener win, which was a great moment for the team. After a tough loss to Edmonton the night before, the Kraken can shake off the rust and earn their second-ever home opener win.
