The Seattle Kraken will be looking to get back on track in a home matchup with the Washington Capitals.
Seattle is looking to snap a six-game losing streak during which they’ve allowed at least four goals in every game. The Kraken now has the league’s worst defense, allowing 3.88 goals per game. Washington brings a very potent offense that ranks sixth in the NHL with 3.44 goals per game. The Capitals are also strong defensively, boasting the league’s third-best defense. Seattle has scored more than two goals just twice in the last five games and may struggle to do so against an elite Caps goalie tandem.
Kraken Returning to Grubauer
Seattle appears to be giving the reigns back to Philipp Grubauer just one game after switching to Chris Driedger in net. Driedger got the start against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 13 shots. Grubauer will face the Caps for the first time as a member of the Kraken. He won a Stanley Cup in Washington before signing with the Avalanche in free agency. He faced the Avs in relief of Driedger on Friday and played well enough to earn himself this start against his other former team.
Capitals Supporting Cast Producing
Most of the discussion involving the Capitals revolves around Alex Ovechkin, who has proven to be the greatest goal scorer of his generation. The Washington captain already has 14 goals on the season, but his teammates are carrying their weight as well. Defenseman John Carlson has been leading the charge from the blueline, leading the Caps with 7 points and a plus-7 rating over the last five games. Garnet Hathaway has a team-high five goals in the last handful of contests as well. Seattle will be focusing on containing Ovechkin, but others on his team are more than capable of filling the scoresheet.
