Kraken vs Canadiens: Date, Time, Betting Odds, Streaming, More

The Seattle Kraken will take on another struggling team in Tuesday’s matchup with the Montreal Canadiens.

Seattle’s home opener didn’t go according to plan, but there’s a chance to improve in this matchup with Montreal. The Canadiens have struggled to score thus far this season, and the Kraken have struggled defensively of late. One team will likely improve at the end of this game, and the Kraken are hoping they are the ones to find success on home ice. They held 1-0 and 2-1 leads against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, but ultimately fell 4-2 after allowing a comeback and an empty-net goal. If they’re able to build another early lead, the Kraken will need to focus on playing safer, turnover-free hockey.

Kraken Home Opener Takeaways

The Kraken didn’t play its best game in front of the home crowd, but they were in the game for most of it. Offensive struggles continued in this contest, as all of Seattle’s goals came from its defensemen. Vince Dunn and Mark Giordano each scored his first of the season, while Philipp Grubauer turned away 22 of 25 Canuck shots. Seattle was finally able to outshoot an opponent, as they threw 31 shots at Thatcher Demko, although only able to score twice. They went 0-for-2 with the powerplay while allowing Vancouver to score once on its four opportunities.

Calle Jarnkrok didn’t look to have any restrictions in his team debut, playing over 17 minutes and logging time in all situations. Another Kraken who showed up frequently on the score sheet was Adam Larsson. He started slow this season defensively but maintained a plus-1 rating in this contest with two shots, three hits, and two blocks. He played with Jeremy Lauzon instead of Jamie Oleksiak, something that may continue after his strong outing.

Montreal Offense Arrives

One of the season’s early storylines was the slow start for the team that made the Stanley Cup Final a year ago. Montreal ranks 31st in the NHL with 1.67 goals per game through its first six games. Six of the 10 goals they’ve scored this season came in Saturday’s 6-1 rout of the Detroit Red Wings. Jonathan Drouin, who missed a large portion of last season, is back and is producing, leading the team in assists and points. Slow starts from Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield have hurt Montreal to start the year. The young duo has combined for just two assists through six games. Goalie Jake Allen has been carrying the load with Carey Price away from the team and has put up respectable numbers in the process. His .905 save percentage and 2.65 goals-against average would give his team a chance to win if they can start giving him goal support.
