Just about a month ago, I released my first NHL Expansion Mock Draft for the Seattle Kraken. The headline featured Jaccob Slavin (who decided to stick around in this one too!) Now, I built the Kraken featuring Jack Eichel and his $10mil cap hit.

We’re now less than a year away from the arrival of the Seattle Kraken to the NHL. To be exact, the Kraken arrives in 346 days. After the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and two weeks of free agency, rosters for the 2020-2021 season are taking shape. Today, I provide my second NHL Expansion Mock Draft.

Just like my first NHL Expansion Mock Draft, I’m enlisting the resourceful CapFriendly interactive tool to finalize the Seattle Kraken. As we near closer to the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, the protected players will vary. Again, consider these disclaimers:

  • The rosters and eligible players will change as we get closer to the expansion draft.
  • The rosters and eligible players are presented using their current stats and are projected for the 2021 offseason.
  • The 40/70 games played requirements are taken into consideration.
  • All players who are not under contract in 2020-2021 are currently assumed to be extended until the end of that season.

Protected players via CapFriendly are based on crowd-sourced popularity. Similar to my first mock draft, some players were available that I believe will not be when the actual NHL Expansion Draft begins at the end of the 2020-2021 regular season.

The players drafted were under the $81.5mil salary cap limit ($77.183mil.) That is a $600k increase from the original mock draft I completed. This roster features a healthy mix of superstar players who were surprisingly listed as unprotected.

Of the thirty players selected, eighteen are forwards, nine are defensemen, and three are goaltenders. One player from each NHL franchise (excluding the Vegas Golden Knights) was selected to complete this version of the Seattle Kraken.

As an advocate for the Seattle Kraken, I am in the business of stealing your team’s most valuable unprotected player to fit this franchise. For the Kraken, we want to be in the Stanley Cup playoffs just like how the Vegas Golden Knights were. Here’s how the second NHL Expansion Mock Draft broke down for Seattle.
