The Minnesota Wild are looking to possibly move on from Ryan Donato, who would have been a perfect Expansion Draft choice for the Seattle Kraken.
Reports suggest that the San Jose Sharks are in the market for both Donato and Devan Dubnyk, who may also have been available to the Seattle Kraken.
It’s got to be disappointing for Ron Francis if indeed Bill Guerin trades these two names away from Minnesota. It’s another two good options no longer available and just confuses the options even further.
If the Expansion Draft were to occur tomorrow, we know that Matt Dumba would be the prize pick. Provided of course, the Wild opt for the 3 defensemen, 5 forwards model.
However, as they send more players out the door, you have to wonder whether they intend to keep Dumba. Indeed, they’re certainly making the 7 skater model a safer bet with every player moved.
The Minnesota Wild have been a team that we’ve been focusing on. Namely because their clauses limiting trades make certain players likely to be available.
Topping that list, of course, Matt Dumba but also the likes of someone like Ryan Donato or Jordan Greenway. These are all guys with plenty of untapped potential. Very much break-out candidates like William Karlsson did in Vegas!
Per @RussoHockey, Ryan Donato was discussed in this one, too.

Indeed, if they opt to move on from both Dubnyk and Donato, it definitely lessens the talent pool for the Seattle Kraken. Gone are the days of both Alex Tuch and Erik Haula both finding their way to Las Vegas.
In fact, between this potential deal, the Eric Staal move and Nick Bjustad addition, their front office have been very clever. While Nick Bjustad may very well be available to the Seattle Kraken, he’s not exactly a big reward!
Of course, the other thought is that moving Devan Dubnyk could be a precursor to the goalie carousel around the NHL kicking into gear!
Whatever the case may be, the Seattle Kraken are watching intently. As we’ve said countless times, every move right now affects the future make-up of our roster.
