The Seattle Kraken are getting ready to host the Detroit Red Wings for the two teams' second and final matchup in the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season. The Kraken just played in Detroit on Oct. 9, where they kicked off the first of five games on an East Coast heavy road trip. Seattle won 6-3.
The Kraken will want to make sure they end the season series on a positive note, and what better way to do that then to beat the Red Wings at Climate Pledge Arena? Here are two storylines to watch as the Kraken get ready to take on the Red Wings.
Montour game-time decision
When the Kraken played against the Tampa Bay Lightning, defenseman Brandon Montour exited the game early due to a lower-body injury. He had to miss the game against the Florida Panthers, which was the conclusion of the five-game road trip. With three days between games, the extra rest would have done the entire team, but especially Brandon Monotur, some good.
Ahead of their game against the Red Wings, the Kraken held an optional morning skate. Montour was on the ice and was skating well. After the morning skate, head coach Lane Lambert announced Montour would be a game-time decision.
Montour is a prime member of Seattles' blue line; he was sorely missed against Florida on Saturday. If he can return to the lineup on Tuesday, that would be a great benefit to the Kraken..
Grubauer starts in net
Philipp Grubauer will get his fifth start of the 2026-27 season in this game. He last played against the Lightning, where he helped stave off Tampa Bay to force the game to go into overtime. Unfortunately, it was Joey Daccord in net against the Panthers, where he allowed all eight goals in.
When a player lets in that many goals, this is a tough mental deal for goalies to endure. Lambert kept Daccord in for the entire game, which is also a tough blow to his mental state.
By playing Grubauer, this break allows Daccord a chance to reset his mental fortitude and then get ready to play again for the Kraken later in the week. Daccord should not take the fact he is sitting out this game personally, as this will only benefit him in the long run.
